Forgotten Places

(photo taken by Motts from opacity.us)

Lately, I've become fascinated with photography...Specifically, sets that feature abandoned, unusual and almost unworldly locations. Places such as asylums, state and military hospitals, and any locale that would be generally considered "creepy". There is so much one can learn and feel from the photo-documentation of places that sadly, seem to have been swept under the rug my modern society. I can't get over imagining what kind of lives the patients of these institutions once followed; How so many items that would be considered historical could be left to rot away in these forgotten places. Here's a little collection of some of my favorite photographers, who travel the world and risk so much in order to capture stunning photos and help give a voice to many of the patients who are since forgotten.

Be sure to check out Byberry (formerly located right here, in Philly), as well as Pennhurst - www.opacity.us
